dailies: here’s lookin’ at you, mom

I don’t know how people dress these days. Me, I couldn’t care less about the way I look nowadays. I’m a mom who’s always rushing and dressing up is the last thing on my mind. People normally dress for two reasons–sex and success. I’m not seeking either one so I merely get dressed.

The last time I was with friends, we talked about how we would love to get made up and dressed up for an occasion. Not having any occasion to go to, we just did some window shopping. We were ’single’ when we met at work and became friends. The friendship lasted even after the work has gone. I guess we all found something in common in each other and two of them were fashion and the drama of our love life.

For us, the main fashion concession then seemed to be the corporate attire and high heels. There was a hint of shoulder pads in those days but much more incredible trends were scarves and stockings. Would you believe one had to wear stockings in those days? We dressed to please the clients and that basically what characterized our adult work life. We dressed for success.

Now, if we want to observe fashion as creative self-expression, we should look at how teenagers dress. They dress to create their own identity and are not afraid to be criticized. In fact, they love the attention. Style is their individuality. That’s what makes them different from all the rest. Whereas, moms dress just so we wouldn’t be naked while we run from here to there.

  1. I hate stockings, mostly because of the acrobatics you have to perform to get them on.

  2. i’m always in shorts around the house. one time i had to go somewhere that i had to wear a pair of pants. when i got home, one of my daughter’s male friend was there. when he saw me wearing pants he commented: aba tita mya pants pala kayo.

it’s just too taxing for me to get dressed up.

  6. im happy, kinda sad that our kids these days have and are developing their own identity, as early as it seem. my 3 year old daughter seem to have joined in. heck! i can’t even get her to wear some clothes i’d pick for her.

as they say, out with the old…in with the new. i guess that’s parenting in the 21st century.

    happy blogging, my dear.
